Rhode Island Agriculture Overview

Rhode Island is home to 1,043 farms spread across a total of nearly 60,000 acres of farmland with an average size of 55 acres. The top commodities produced in the state include: Nursery Crops, Greenhouse Crops, Floriculture products, Sod, Vegetables, Milk, and Aquaculture products. Rhode Island is the smallest state and as a result, it has the lowest agricultural revenue of any state. However, given that farmland covers 10% of the state's entire land area and that agriculture is one of the top economic drivers for the state, it is apparent that agriculture plays an important role in Rhode Island.
