Vermont Agriculture Overview

Historically, Vermont agriculture has revolved around dairy production and today, dairy products still make up 62% of the states agricultural sales amounting to over $500 million annually. However, we have seen growth in crop production over the last 5 years as well, particularly for greenhouse crops as well as Fruits and Tree Nuts. Vermont is also the number one producer of Maple Syrup in the nation. Just over 20% of Vermont's land area is used as farmland, a total of 1.2 million acres combined.
